Kerry Krull’s journey — from overcoming adversity to owning two of Burbank’s most beloved spots, Romancing the Bean Café and The New Deal Restaurant & Wine Bar — is shaped by hard work, heart, and hospitality.

Her weekly trips to the farmers market to select fresh ingredients is just one example of the care she pours into her craft. She’s built more than restaurants; she’s created a “home away from home.”

The Café

We source the freshest local and organic ingredients from our local Farmer's Market to create a delicious menu of hearty salads, soups, sandwiches, and desserts. We work with eco-friendly and sustainable vendors.

This award-winning café is the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack of espresso drink with a pastry or dessert. We proudly serve certified organic Groundworks coffee.

Chef Kerry Krull is the Honoree and recipient of the “Outstanding Small Business Woman” award given by Senator Anthony J. Portantino at the 2018 Women in Business Luncheon at The Castaways in Burbank.

Romancing the Bean has been the recipient of the “Daily News Readers” Favorite Choice ‘Coffee Shop’ 2013 and has won the “Burbank Leader’s ‘Best of Burbank’” award every year since 1997. The Café also offers outdoor patio dining.

“I want people to feel like they’re coming into my home… like they’re getting a sandwich from their mom”

— Kerry Krull, Chef, Mom & Owner

Our Story

A middle-aged woman standing outdoors under a white patio umbrella, wearing a white shirt and a white apron, with one hand on her hip and a confident expression.

This family-owned café is a southern California gem built on hard work, family, and love.

Chef Kerry Krull-Meadows has worked in the restaurant industry for more than 25 years and trained at Le Cordon Bleu.

Kerry’s daughter, Kendra, completely designed the café into a romantic setting featuring an old yet modern elegance. Kerry’s son, Ramsey, handled the operations and was the first barista!

The Romancing the Bean family has now grown beyond just Kerry and her kids, to include three chefs, a number of baristas and servers…and all the wonderful and supportive customers that have followed the Krull family journey along the way.
